Self Description
            My understanding of Teaching. Teaching is to facilitate someone else’s learning process. It is to give lessons in a particular subject to a person (pupil) or to a group of persons (class). Teaching is also to show someone how to do something. Teaching, in my opinion, is definitely a skill. The skill may be learnt directly or indirectly. For example, a mother may learn indirectly teaching skills from nurturing her children. She may teach them language and basic living skills without even realising it. By conversing with her children, she is indirectly teaching them language. A skill is the ability to do something well. If based on the first statement above, a teaching skill would be the ability to facilitate someone else’s learning process. So it is not merely to give lessons to a pupil or a class or to show someone how to do something. The teacher also has take into account the learner’s ability to learn what is being taught. As the learning abilities vary from one individual to another, the teacher has to ensure that the subject to be imparted to the learner is understood and learnt. I would think that teaching skill is an ongoing process as the objective of teaching is to impart knowledge. And this imparting of knowledge requires consistent improvement and adaptation as the teaching environment, e.g. a class or a pupil, involves individuals with varying learning abilities.
