"Not your typical tuition teacher- Study smart, not hard"
Self Description
Hi there, Greetings! I’m Kim, a private tutor from Taman Tun. Pleasure to be e-acquainted. As you’ve probably took a glimpse of my profile, I’m a Bachelor of Science graduate (and a scholar too) and majored in Medical Bioscience. Since neither research or sales is my cuppa tea, somewhat being part of the academia has seemed to be my calling. I’ve stumbled upon this path about 5 years ago where I started tutoring O- Levels and A-Levels Maths upon a personal request from a friend. The experience of seeing the glimmer from a student when they’ve understood your teachings has since got me hooked on teaching. By day, I’m a Senior Account Executive for a Digital Marketing Agency in Klang Valley and by night (and weekends), I moonlight as a private tutor. My experience spans a variety of backgrounds; from Private Primary Schools, International High Schools to Public High Schools, I’ve taken care of English, Chemistry, Maths and Biology (my all time favourite). I was blessed with opportunity to care for students of Singaporean syllabus as well- Sec 3 Science (Chemistry) and Sec 3 English for Singapore’s AIES entrance exams. In a nutshell, I deem myself an extremely open minded, chatty, easy going educator who does not believe in only conventional ways of teaching (no offense to the traditional lot); For instance, I believe that it is imperative for us tutors to evolve and progress along with technology as it is of importance for students to have basic technical know-hows in preparation for higher education. Lucky for my students, the day job has equipped me to do so. Thinking back of my own student days, I can’t emphasize more on the importance of being resourceful and independent as a student by making full use of the Internet and what Web 2.0 technologies are able to offer. Studying smart (not by merely studying hard) WILL go a long way. My methods focuses a lot on practical approaches and examples to allow students to relate better, which in turn eases their understanding. On the personal front, I strive to live by balance, especially in health and sports which I take much priority in. Being an all-rounder, sports have definitely instilled discipline which crossed over to my study habits. I take effort in cultivating a honest, committed and flexible relationship with students’ parents; so much so, most have became friends and even play badminton with. On the other hand, I firmly believe in a well balanced and trusted relationship with students; Misconducts such as not completing home work could be tolerated but it largely depends on his/ her general attentiveness and behavior in class; Rewarding is a norm especially when they’ve earned it. On the contrary, I do fire uncommitted parents- a family-tutor relationship should by right be two ways right? I’m currently transitioning to a full time tutor and an open to explore day care opportunities as well. Hope to hear from you, thank you! Yours sincerely, Kim
