My Teaching Teachniques 1. Beginning a lesson ¨C Set Induction. Student attention is usually drawn by greeting the class when you enter the classroom. 2. Voice control. 3. Relate the topic to something of great interest to the class, eg: a favourite game. 4. Use picture, models, diagram to draw attention. 5. Using instructional aids ¨C For a lesson to effectively such as : 1. Using the blackboard whiteboard. 6. Using other visual aids, tape recorder. 7. Questioning: Central to interactive teaching is the active use of questions. Questions help to : a) Actively involve students in the lesson. b) Encorage then to ask question 8. Type of questioning: a) Focusing questions. - Focus attention on the material being used, to check understanding during at the end of the lesson. b) Prompting questions. - Are useful when you do not get a response from your student. Answer can be (yes/no). c) Probing questions: - Ask the student to explain in detail / more about that. Ending the lesson: 1. The final stage of the lesson is as important as the beginning. At this stage of the lesson you can: a) Summarize what has been taught. b) Consolidate, new concepts which may have been taught. Eg: Number: now tell me how many pieces of chalk there are on the table? c) End a unit of study. d) Follow up a lesson ¡° we have looked at objects in the classroom. I want you to write down five objects you can find in our School library, we will discuss in class tomorrow.¡±
